Although to some, social networking is social networking, LinkedIn and Facebook are very different types of websites. Facebook is a very casual site, many times to a fault. People are able to freely express themselves and are seemingly encouraged to gossip, judge, and dramatically hype themselves up. Facebook can also be an innocent place for family and friend to stay in touch through sharing photos and stories. Alternatively, LinkedIn is a very professional type of website created specifically for business networking purposes. Through LinkedIn, one is able to create a resume-style website to enhance business potential, personal reputation, and potential jobs or clients. Both websites are places to connect to those you know and share personal information; however, these things are done quite differently across the sites. Even though it is nice to be able to combine things in life for simplicity, LinkedIn and Facebook provide two completely different things to users, both of which can be very useful for the intended purpose.
