The generation of technology. A topic of conversation in seemingly every circle of people. Kids who have never known life without cell phones, tablets, computers, social networking, and tons more! How will all of this technology affect our future generations? No one really knows yet; however, I anticipate that the future generations will far exceed our wildest imagination. Kids are able to access information within seconds and use that information for a myriad of purposes. Will there be negatives? Of course. What coin doesn't have two sides? As with most things, we must take the good with the bad. Acknowledging the dangers of technology and preparing ourselves and our future generations for problems is important to seeing technology be successful. However, I think that as long as we are mentoring and teaching kids appropriate uses for technology-the benefits will be substantial!
Facebook and EducationFacebook is an element of education in which I have always been familiar with. When going through my undergraduate program in college, Facebook was an up-and-coming trend and very popular for use with college students. Now, as an educator, I have continued to see Facebook used. I believe that for older students, Facebook is a very valuable resource. Educators are constantly looking for ways to engage and interest learners-especially in the high school years. Facebook provides a method that students are already familiar with to enhance, encourage, and allowed ease-of-use for student learning. Although there are always drawbacks to certain styles of teaching, I believe that the use of social networking is a very valuable resource. |
